HSC Industrial Tech Major Work.

For my Multimedia Major Work, I created a series of spec advertisements to showcase my skills as both a filmmaker and photographer. My aim was to produce a cohesive yet varied collection of visual media that demonstrates my ability to promote a brand through dynamic storytelling and technical craft. The project combines videos, photography, and behind-the-scenes content, all presented on a website designed with Adobe XD and brought to life using HTML and CSS.

Each advertisement within the series was intentionally crafted to have a unique tone and style, allowing me to experiment with different genres and techniques. This creative variety reflects the real-world demands of working with diverse brands, where tailoring visual language to a product’s identity is essential. For example, some ads lean into high-paced, stylised energy to suit a sports brand, while others adopt a slower, more intimate feel for lifestyle or wellness products. This approach not only showcases versatility, but also my understanding of brand aesthetics and audience engagement.

Statement of Intent

I aim to create a series of speculative (spec) advertisements to showcase my skills as a filmmaker and photographer. These videos be embedded in a website built with HTML, CSS, and JS, serving as a comprehensive portfolio. My project will promote brands while highlighting my multimedia abilities. I will focus on both analogue and digital photography, comparing aspects like colour, grain, and dynamic range. The ads will vary in style and genre, from intense sports montages to narrative-driven stories. Alongside the videos, I will include photographs of the production process and stills from the ads, captured with both digital and analogue cameras. This project will demonstrate my technical skills and creative storytelling in multimedia, blending videography, photography, and web design to enhance the visual storytelling

A man escapes the chaos of his home by putting on headphones and selecting a song. Transported to serene locations—a sunrise beach, a lookout, an open landscape, and a desert—he expresses himself through dance. Each setting introduces new characters, also finding freedom through music. In the end, they all unite at the beach before returning to reality, their journeys symbolizing the power of music to transcend and connect.

A man tries to relax on his sofa but is frustrated by a cluttered array of remotes that control everything but his TV. After several failed attempts, he yells, “Why can’t there be a remote for everything?” Mystically, his laptop opens to Amazon, where he orders the perfect remote. Moments later, the doorbell rings, delivering his solution in a package.

A runner prepares and takes off, a golfer lines up his shot, and a tennis player awaits a serve. Each strives for success: the runner is overtaken, the tennis player misses his swing, and the golfer watches his ball miss the hole, only for another to roll in. The scenes cut between moments of effort and missed opportunities, highlighting the struggles and unexpected outcomes in the pursuit of achievement.

A core focus of the project was integrating both analogue and digital photography. This was a deliberate choice, allowing me to explore the different visual textures, colours, and moods each medium offers. Analogue images—with their natural grain, limited dynamic range, and warmer colour palettes—evoke a sense of nostalgia and tactility. In contrast, digital photography allows for cleaner, sharper images with greater control in post-production. By placing these two formats side by side, I aimed to create contrast while highlighting the unique beauty of each. This also reflects my interest in blending traditional and modern techniques—a skill I believe is important in contemporary media production.
